Get A Library Card

Benzie Shores District Library Card

The library welcomes all visitors and offers free library cards with limited borrowing privileges to anyone interested in checking out physical materials from the collection.

How to Get a Library Card

Library cards can be issued in person at the library. To register, simply bring a valid photo ID. Once issued, your card allows you to borrow books, DVDs, and other physical items from our collection.

Accessing Digital Services

To use the library’s digital services—such as OverDrive, Hoopla, and other online platforms—you must provide proof of residency within the library district. These services are available exclusively to residents of our supporting communities, as outlined below.

Library District Membership

Residents of the following municipalities are considered members of the library district and are eligible for full access to digital resources:

  • City of Frankfort

  • Blaine Township

  • Crystal Lake Township

  • Village of Elberta

  • Gilmore Township

  • A portion of Lake Township (specifically, homes located within the Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools (FEAS) district)

Library Use Without a Card

A library card is only required to check out materials. You do not need a library card to:

  • Browse or read books and other materials on-site

  • Use the library’s public computers

  • Connect to the library’s free Wi-Fi

  • Attend programs, events, and activities hosted by the library

The library is open to all community members and visitors, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of our welcoming space and available resources—whether or not you choose to register for a card.
